Bus Members...
From duration to time I compelled....drawn to... revisit some of the Jim Collins materials (website and work). In some ways it revitalizes me...in some ways it depresses me because I perceive like some people still "just don't get it..."
Take this selected passage from article by Jim Collins titled: "Advantageous to Great and the Civil Sectors."
Yet a discovery from our research [key vocable here folks, study...not an opinion or supposition] is instructive: the key mutable is not how (or how much) you pay, but who you have on the bus. The comparison companies in our investigation—those that failed to become ample—placed greater stress on using incentives to “motivate” otherwise unmotivated or undrilled people. The huge companies, in exhibition of differences, focused on acquisition and hanging on to the straight people in the first broad way—those who are productively neurotic, those who are self-motivated and self-disciplined, those who be awake up every day, compulsively driven to do the most excellent they can because it is simply part of their DNA.
Don't get me inequitable...I believe as well as most that recompense is a KEY ingredient in motivation (no, not always #1) but the sharp end being made here is that it doesn't body how much you pay someone who doesn't perplexity or isn't committed...it won't bring into being your Org. better. A essence concept for issue once again is ...."Acquirement the right tribe on the bus!"
I find so much satisfaction in perusal and hearing that general notion...frankly because I firmly confident it's central towards becoming the most excellent you can be. If you settle for something less...well...then you are....colonizing for something LESS. I know of companies that confident and LIVE the "Advantageous to Great" concepts...and honestly they are some of the finest companies I comprehend of....hmmm, as luck may have it something to that....
I leave you today with a inquiry: Are you, "...productively neurotic, ...self-motivated and self-disciplined, ...(do you) continue awake up every day, compulsively driven to do...
