So here you have it, the first in what I trust will be a fun weekly line debating the Everywhere value of two players who are at the top of their amusement; fill out a roster or are reasonable fun to debate between.

This week we shrink with a tough one. Two not old catchers in disconnect leagues, each with a ample track take down and wonderful race still ahead.

It is Joe Mauer against Russell Martin in our first Idler Versus Trifler Challenge. So peruse on, comment lots and devoted in our poll. Next week we will diadem a champ and startle on a new debate in what will hopefully be a huge ongoing line.

Background
The Gemini had the first pick in the 2001 selection. The consensus most excellent player on the plank was USC right-hander Impress Prior, but his reward demands were unclear, and Minnesota has a bad narrative of not being able to mark draft picks. The next to the first-best idler available was tall school catcher Joe Mauer, with whom the Gemini were very familiar, for he was a limited boy, from St. Paul. While high-reaching school catchers taken at the top of the selection have a poor trace record, Mauer was a specifical athlete, with a Florida Pass quarterback erudition in his pocket. Averse to gamble on Precedent’s signability, the Gemini pulled the trigger on Mauer, and convinced him to forgo the gridiron. He is now the most excellent long-mete catching scene in baseball.

Scouting set forth
Physically, Mauer is a good in a higher degree athlete than some shortstops. He has prime mobility behind the layer, a very strong arm, and tremendous hand-eye coordination. He still of necessity experience avocation a game, but he is well-informed and is picking that up. He will last to be a Gold Glove catcher in duration.
